About Me

Kenny "slug": For most of my life I didn't take very good care of the body God gave me. At 40 I took a good hard look at myself and didn't like what I saw. I weighed 250 lbs and had been useing snuff and chewing tobacco for nearly 30 years. So I quit the tobacco, but I gained 35 more pounds over the next couple of years. In October I started the Adkins diet and quit caffeine. By December I had lost a lot of weight and started running. The first time that I had run a mile in over 20 years was 1 mile on the treadmill at the YMCA. I am certain people were probably taking bets on whether the fat guy on the treadmill would drop dead. Even though it was very painful it made me fill better about myself, so I kept doing it. In June I heard about some crazy 5K race in town. I wondered if I could do it. I wondered if I would finish in last place? Well I did finish and I wasn't last. I was hooked!!!! Then came 10Ks, half marathons, full marathons, 50K ultra marathons, 50 mile ultra. 100 mile? If God is willing I will run the Grindstone 100 Oct 2009.
